If you're on your way to the beach in Batangas,
why not stop by the Apolinario Mabini Shrine for a quick trip down history!

(PS: Don't worry, I won't bore you with endless paragraphs about Philippine history, or the revolution. 😉)

Apolinario Mabini Shrine is located at Barrio Talaga, a few kilometers away from the city proper of Tanauan Batangas and two hours drive from Manila.

How to get there

(coming from the direction of Manila)

👣 Take the SLEX (South Luzon Expressway) route to STAR tollway. Take the first exit, Tanauan Exit, and drive straight towards Talisay. You'll spot the shrine on the right side of the road around 15-20 minutes from the STAR tollway exit.

The whole place is dedicated to the Sublime Paralytic and the Brain of the Revolution, Apolinario Mabini.
Inside is a library, a museum, and his tomb. They have a collection of his things from a handkerchief down to the glasses he used, paintings that shows his life and struggles, and artifacts. You'll surely see a glimpse of his life!

On the right side of the museum, you'll see a replica of the hut where Mabini was born and raised. The hut is made from nipa (palm tree leaves), this shows how simple his life was.

Before entering you'll find a white marble bust carved by G. T. Nepomuceno that marks the site of his tomb.. yes, I asked, he's really in there!

A few reminders
✎ The whole place is open to the public, no entrance fee.
✎ Flash photography is not allowed.
✎ You can request a tour of the museum. At the end of the tour, you'll find a table for your comments and suggestions.

The museum has two floors, you can take the stairs but they do have an elevator for disabled or for the elderlies. And you don't need to worry about the heat because all rooms are air-conditioned.

What separates Mabini Shrine from other museums for me is how modern it is and how clean it looks.
